On June 9, a mandatory period began in Mexico for phone line users to register their mobile number with their CURP or official identification in order to avoid blocking or indefinite suspension of service.
However, this issue has caused controversy and concern among thousands of users, as many are asking if it is possible to unsubscribe from the owner’s phone line after registration. If you’re one of them, here we explain what the law says and how the process works.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DISCONNECT THE OWNER’S PHONE LINE?
The answer is yes.
According to the provisions in the Official Journal of the Federation, telephone lines can be legally and technically released from their owner or user by canceling the association through a personal identity and telephone number.
This procedure is completely legal, free and regulated and can be done under the above conditions.
TELEPHONE LINE DESCRIPTION TYPES
There are two ways to untie depending on the relationship you have with the number:
The legal owner of the line
- A line that has been deactivated.
- It is not possible to make or receive calls or messages.
- Only emergency numbers will remain active.
- There is no back reactivation option.
User (who uses the phone but is not the owner and pays for the line)
- Delete the name of the registered user.
- The number remains legally active.
- Ideal for rented, business or family lines.
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO THEY NEED FOR THE DESCRIPTION?
To complete this process, you need to familiarize yourself with some of the following official documents:
- INE in force
- CURP
- Door passage
In the event that termination occurs due to the bankruptcy of the owner or user, it will be necessary to submit a deed of termination, and this process must be carried out in mandatory attendance.
HOW TO TERMINATE A PHONE LINE?
The process is free and can be done in two ways: in person or remotely.
THE PRESENTIAL PROCESS OF DESUNCING
- Go to your telephone company’s Customer Service Center.
- Please present your current official ID for identity verification.
- After the process is completed, the provider must provide you with a folio with a unique identifier that contains the date and time of the operation.
This will officially disconnect the line from the system.
REMOTE DESCRIPTION PROCESS
To do this, you need to go to the official site of your telephone company. Although the steps may vary depending on the tester, the procedure generally includes:
- Create a “Life Story”, take a photo to verify your identity.
- Express your intention to disconnect the telephone line.
- The system allows you to have three attempts to complete the process.
- If not, you will need to contact customer service.
- Confirmation of unbinding will be sent via message.
Is it worth untying the cord?
Logging out can be useful if you change user, lose the number, inherit lines or business phones, but it is important to consider that if you are the legal owner, the number will become unusable.
