Trump pulls ‘commander at large’ from Minneapolis after death – Media – RT World News

Gregory Bovin’s departure comes after second fatal shooting involving federal agents during immigration raids

Controversial “commander at large” Several media outlets have reported that US President Donald Trump’s federal immigration push in Minnesota has been removed from his post following two fatal shootings.

The reported departure of US Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovin comes in the wake of the Jan. 7 killings of activists Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents on Saturday. The incidents sparked public outrage and nationwide protests.

Trump announced Monday that White House border czar Tom Homan will be sent to Minneapolis to oversee immigration enforcement operations.

A source told Reuters on Tuesday that Bovino would return to his former job as head of California’s El Centro sector on the US-Mexico border.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a post “some federal agents” begins to leave town, but Bovino did not directly mention it. “I will continue to push for the rest involved in this operation to end,” Frey added.

CNN claimed Trump was “unhappy” with how Bovino and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem handled the aftermath of Pretti’s killing. Noem was reportedly criticized for making premature statements in defense of the agents involved.

Bonino insisted that the American citizen killed was armed and wanted “massacre law enforcement.” A video circulating online appears to show Pretti holding a phone just before he was attacked and shot. He apparently had a gun on him, but the agents took it away from him.

CNN reported that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) blocked the 55-year-old commander from his social media accounts immediately after he clashed with lawmakers online over the shooting.

Critics of Bovino online also claimed that the commander had “Nazi Look” due to his cropped haircut and military-style coat that went viral.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told X that despite the transfer, Bovino is staying “A key part of the President’s team and a great American.”

Police said 26 people were arrested overnight protesting outside the hotel where Bovino was believed to be staying.
