Superbook is gaining ground in Japan.
CBN recently introduced an animated Bible series to this Asian nation.
Japanese parents and children are thrilled and encouraged in an area of the country devastated by an earthquake earlier this year.
Superbook festivals were held in the Kyushu region, an area hit by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in April.
The head of the Kyushu Christ Disaster Relief Center, Pastor Yogi Nakamura, says the Superbook is part of trauma counseling for children.
“We wanted to bring hope to the children who are still recovering from the trauma of the earthquake. Many children here are still afraid. They can’t sleep on their own, so the Superbook is a great encouragement to the children,” he explained.
The Superbook also prompted churches to strengthen their children’s ministry. Many churches don’t even have Sunday school. The event was mainly attended by adults.
Jenny Oh is a missionary among children. She was delighted with the episode “First Christmas” by Superbook, which was shown at the festival.
“It gives them a different perspective on Christmas. They don’t know about Jesus. They don’t know the meaning of being part of Christ. It’s important to tell them what the real meaning of Christmas is in a way they can understand,” Oh said.
Two of the girls told CBN News that they enjoyed watching Superbook and especially liked the story about Jesus Christ.
Michio Osakawa of Word of Life Press Ministries said the Superbook is a valuable ministry tool.
“The superbook can be an effective way to share the gospel in Japan. The children who watch it when they grow up, even if they don’t become Christians, can look back on the values they learned.”
