Company News: Syracuse couple announces retirement


After 30 years of experience as a clinical social worker Kathleen Deters-Hayes decided to retire and Timothy Hayesa state-licensed clinical psychologist, recently retired from his practice on South Crouse Avenue.

Kathleen received her bachelor’s degree in music education and taught music for two years. She then returned to complete her master’s degree in counseling from Illinois State University and moved to Syracuse for work Syracuse University in the Division of Dormitory Life as Director of Dormitory and Assistant Director of Dormitory Life.

In 1993, Kathleen pursued a master’s degree in clinical social work and moved to Topeka, Kansas, where she completed a post-master’s fellowship at Menninger Clinic where she worked for two years after her internship. She then moved back to New York where she worked as a therapist Hamilton College for two years and moved to Syracuse and worked at SUNY Upstate Adult Psychiatric Clinic has been specializing in working with clients who have struggled with eating disorders for 21 years. She retired from SUNY and opened her own private practice for the past four years.

Timothy Hayes was raised in Connecticut and received his Ph.D Binghamton University in 1994 and initially worked in VA Hospital before entering private practice. When he worked at the VA, he was the chief of the chemical dependency unit.

In his private practice, he performed both psychological assessments and had psychotherapy clients. He worked as an external consultant to the company SUNY North State bariatric center and have conducted hundreds of evaluations with bariatric patients requesting surgery. He was also a consultant to SUNY Upstate’s pain management program and conducted pain management evaluations.

The married couple lives in Syracuse, where they plan to spend their retirement.
