The trainer turned the promising gelding around the corner

Trainer John Thompson isn’t quite ready to start putting his faith in the Clear Proof gelding just yet, but that could change if he continues what could be a revival at Kensington on Wednesday.

The four-year-old started his career with a win at the same track in June 2024, then finished second in the Listed Rosebud at his next start, but did not continue to work as promised.

The final second on the grid, his first podium finish since Rosebud’s effort, saw Clear Proof hopeful Thompson turn the corner and he doesn’t mind riding a rain-affected track.

“He ran well the last day so hopefully he can get it back,” he said.

“He works like a winner, he has to do everything right in the race.

“He ran well on good tracks and his good form has been on wet tracks so he won’t be worried.

Thompson has accepted in two races and is leaning towards the Spelling At Coolmore Mt White Handicap (1250m), although it is an emergency for a later race.

He said Clear Proof has become a “non-trier” in his opinion, but has seen a different side to what is his second preparation since he was gelded.

“He was a bad colt when he started and because he showed a little bit of promise, he left the colt a little too long,” Thompson said.
