The Ataris release first new album in 19 years: ‘We’re on a Mission’

The pop-punk band will soon release their first new album in 19 years.

Ataris bassist Mike Davenport said recently Punk rock philosophy that “The new record is ready!” with a release date planned for March or April 2026. It will feature “Car Song”, the group’s last single released in May.

“I’m really excited about it! We’re looking forward to the whole record coming out and you all hearing it,” Davenport said. “It was emotional, and I can tell you that (singer-guitarist Kristopher “Kris” Roe) put everything he had into that record. It’s been a long time since he tried to handle too much, so when he gets us all back, he can focus on what’s really important. His best quality is writing songs and fine-tuning everything in the studio. One thing I can tell you, when you’re on stage every night, his voice loses its voice. It’s gotten better, when old friends come out and see us on tour they all say ‘his voice was amazing last night’ He puts everything into his voice and performance and I think it shows on the new material.

This year will be the 30th anniversary of the band’s formation in 1996. Davenport noted that The Ataris had reunited after two long hiatuses, but had renewed energy following the Covid pandemic.

“Covid was a reset — the band came back from it on a mission that we hadn’t been on since we were kids,” Danveport told PRP. “Our goal and our mission is to make new music and be the best band we can be every time we go on stage.”

The Ataris are a punk rock/pop-punk/alternative rock band that rose to fame during the MySpace/Warped Tour era. The group released five albums between 1997 and 2007 featuring popular songs such as “In This Diary”, “San Dimas High School Football Rules”, “So Long, Astoria” and a cover version of Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer”. Over the past decade, the band has continued to release music, including demos, live recordings, and several previously unreleased songs.

The Ataris have more than a dozen tours planned for 2026 after canceling two December shows in Buffalo and Syracuse when Roe injured his back. Fans can find tickets at StubHub and Seat Geek.
