Syracuse, NY – Syracuse will host Delaware State transfer James Jones for a visit, according to 247 Sports.
The running back was a first-team All-MEAC selection for Desean Jackson in the former Philadelphia Eagle’s first year at the helm. Jones ran for 958 yards and nine touchdowns on 9.8 yards per carry.
The Hornets gave Jones a chance to get on the field after spending 2024 at Louisiana-Monroe. He and graduate student Marquis Gillis, another first-team All-MEAC selection, led Delaware State to the top running back team in the MEAC.
Jones is explosive. He had two 90-yard touchdowns in 2025, tying the 40-year-old school record for longest punt return. He also had a 76-yard touchdown as the Hornets beat Michael Vick and Norfolk State at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Owings Mills (Maryland) product will also visit Cincinnati and Kentucky.
Syracuse lost its leading rusher, sophomore Yasin Willis, to a transfer. It also lost sophomore Malachi James, the New Jersey record holder.
As of Friday, the Orange have four scholarships and possibly a fifth if Will Nixon gets another year and returns to play for his father and offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon.
Jones has one season of eligibility remaining.
