Syracuse football lands commitment from Penn State WR transfer, former 4-star recruit (report)

Syracuse, NY – Syracuse football has received a verbal commitment from Penn State transfer wide receiver Matt Outten, a former four-star prospect in the class of 2025.

Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported Outten’s commitment.

The wide receiver is ranked as the No. 425 player available on the transfer portal by On3.com. He did not play in a game last year for Penn State and has four years of eligibility remaining.

Penn State listed Outten as 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds last year. Penn State coaches described him during the season as having a high level of athleticism but needing to learn the nuances of the receiver position.

The Nittany Lions brought in a number of receivers this offseason from Iowa State, a former program led by new coach Matt Campbell.

Outten was ranked as the No. 311 recruit in the country out of high school by 247Sports nationally. He was ranked as high as 196th in the country in the 247Sports unique rankings.

As a high school prospect, Outten reportedly had offers from Syracuse, Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee and others. Syracuse was among Outten’s final four choices as a 2024 high school prospect, along with Virginia Tech, Maryland and Penn State.

As a recruit, he was a member of 247Sports’ 2025 Freaks List, reflecting that athleticism. His track and field marks in high school included running 6.49 seconds in the 55, 10.91 in the 100 meters, 22.45 in the 200, and recording a high jump of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Outten played high school football at Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia.

With the addition of Outten, Syracuse’s transfer class is currently ranked 34th in the nation by On3.com and 54th in the nation by 247Sports.
