Syracuse football adds UNLV’s Tunmise Adeleye to transfer portal (report)


Syracuse, NY – Former UNLV defensive end Tunmise Adeleye has transferred to Syracuse, reports state On the 3.

It will be the fifth school Adeleye has played in the last five years, though the journeyman defensive lineman is having his most productive season yet.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, Adeleye was one of the top high school prospects in the country but struggled to live up to the billing.

He left one school in the middle of the season after a sudden coaching change. He was suspended from the team for another off-field incident.

Now entering his sixth collegiate season, Adeleye looks to finally live up to his potential during his final season.

He signed with Texas A&M as a four-star recruit out of high school and played two seasons there when former Syracuse defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson was the Aggies’ assistant defensive line coach.

After redshirting in 2021, Adeleye’s 2022 season was cut short due to an ankle injury. This injury is likely grounds for a medical waiver that would allow him to compete with the Orange in 2026.

He transferred to Michigan State but left the Spartans after seven games in 2023 after coach Mel Tucker was fired.

After landing in the state of Texas, Adeleye was suspended after an on-campus arrest in February 2024. He was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon, evading arrest with a vehicle, reckless driving and failure to identify. University star.

He played in seven games that season and finished with three tackles for loss, including two sacks and a quarterback hurry.

Last season at UNLV, Adeleye produced a six-sack season, earning him honorable mention in the Mountain West. Pro Football Focus credited him with 36 pressures last season, ranking him among the top 30 defensive linemen in the Big Six.

After entering the transfer portal, Adeleye visited Syracuse from January 3 to 4.

A 247sports four-star recruit in the 2021 class out of Thompkins (Texas), Adeleye was rated as the ninth-best cornerback and No. 39 overall player in the nation in the 247 composite.

He is rated as a three-star transfer in the 2026 cycle.

Syracuse added two defensive ends via transfer in Adeleye and Keyshawn Johnson from Tennessee-Martin. The Orange now have five scholarship defensive ends on their 2026 roster.

The Orange also signed rookies in the 2026 class who can rotate between interior and defensive end. Syracuse also has some versatility in strongside linebacker Jamie Tremble.

Players have until Friday to enter their names into the transfer portal, but no visits can take place for the next three days.

Syracuse’s spring semester began Monday. The last day to add classes is January 20th.
