Stefon Diggs faces strangulation charges; the former Bills star denies the allegations

DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) – New England Patriots star wide receiver Stefon Diggs faces strangulation and other felony charges in connection with an incident earlier this month, police said.

News of the charges emerged after a court hearing Tuesday in Dedham, Massachusetts. It is unclear what led to the charges, which include felony strangulation or strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

The former Buffalo Bills star’s attorney, David Meier, said in an emailed statement that Diggs “vehemently denies these allegations.”

Meier said the allegations never happened and described them as baseless and unsubstantiated.

“The timing and motivation for filing the complaints is abundantly clear: they are the direct result of a financial dispute between an employee and an employer that has not been resolved to the employee’s satisfaction,” Meier wrote.

Diggs, 32, established himself as one of the NFL’s best wide receivers during a run with Minnesota and Buffalo from 2018 to 2023, when he had six consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

After a lackluster stint in Houston last year, Diggs ended up in New England, becoming one of the team’s biggest offseason acquisitions. He’s proven to be a reliable target for second-year quarterback Drake Mayo and is a big reason the team has regained the AFC East title as the team heads into the playoffs.
