Rugby sevens sisters Teagan and Maddison Levi have turned down a lucrative temporary switch to the NRLW and extended their contracts with Rugby Australia until the 2028 Olympics.
The RA was opened to Teagan, 22, and Maddison, 23, who played for the Gold Coast Titans before returning to the sevens program, which would allow the sisters to potentially double their salaries for four months, according to sources with knowledge of the matter who cannot comment publicly.

Before leaving for the World Sevens tournament in Singapore, Maddison revealed that the Australian national team had ultimately overtaken any financial rewards when she turned down an offer from the Gold Coast Titans.
“There are so many codes competing against each other in Australia, which is really exciting, but the luxury of being a full-time program, getting paid full-time… We travel the world and [are] to represent your country month after month, it’s something you can’t really put a price on,” said Maddison.
“I think the money is nice, but it’s not everything. We both play for the love of the game and I think that’s ultimately why we turned it around.” [the Titans offer] down.”
The RA averted a similar move last October to ensure that the sisters are available for selection in the Wallaroos squad for the 2025 World Cup. Finally, the sisters have become unavailable for the tournament, but two of the biggest names in rugby sevens remain.

Maddison previously revealed she would be open to playing in the NRLW, but instead chose to focus on preparing for a third Olympics. The 2028 Los Angeles Games will be Teagan’s second Olympics after playing in Paris in 2024 with her sister. The sisters also want to compete in the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.
The Levi sisters would have less than a month to prepare for life in the NRLW, having never played rugby league before.
