Syracuse, NY – The Le Moyne College women’s basketball team hosted SUNY Geneseo and cruised to a 67-55 victory over the Knights on Ted Grant Court on Tuesday afternoon. The Dolphins are now 2-11 after their final non-conference game of the 2025-26 season.
Junior forward Ashley Buragas (Hopewell Junction, NY / John Jay / Mineral Area College) led all players with 16 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes on the court. She shot 5-8 (62.5%) from the field and 6-7 (85.7%) from the charity stripe in the win.
A sophomore ranger Eli Clark (Oakhurst, NJ / Ocean Township) sat just behind Buragas with 15 points and tied Geneseo’s leading scorer while shooting 6-10 (60.0%) overall and 3-5 (60.0%) from deep. Senior guard Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, NY / Albertus Magnus) and freshman forward Thanks Matthews (Red Lion, Pa. / Dallastown) finished with 7 and 6 points respectively, while a total of 10 “Phins” contributed to the score column.
Le Moyne shot 20-23 (87.0%) from the free throw line, their best total since Dec. 7 of last season when they went 21-25 against UMass Lowell. They also added a season-high 14 steals, the most in nearly two seasons (3/2/24 vs. Saint Francis; 15) against the Knights.
The Dolphins shot 20-55 (36.4%) from the field while scoring 20 points in the paint, 14 points off turnovers and 20 points off the bench in the loss.
Kristin Suydam led Geneseo with 15 points on 4-6 (66.7%) shooting from the field including one 3-pointer and a perfect 6-6 from the line. She also led the team in rebounds with six and blocks with two in the loss. They were closely followed in both categories by Sofia Vasselmanová with 11 points and five rebounds.
E. Clark and Linnin opened the scoring for Le Moyne with a pair of 3-pointers before free throws from Buragas and the freshman. Peyton Dincher (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) extended the team’s lead to four, 12-8, with 2:59 remaining in the opening quarter. Buragas completed the frame with a dolphin-colored jumper.
Le Moyne took a 10-point lead nearly four minutes into the second quarter after two free throws and a layup, all by Matthews. A pair of E. Clarke and Dincher gave the team a 30-17 lead with 3:30 left in the half and they maintained an eight-point lead at the break.
Another pair of free throws by Buragas, along with buckets from the field by the junior forward and E. Clark kept their lead at eight, 40-32, midway through the period. Despite a three-minute stretch without a bucket, the Dolphins outscored the Knights 11-3 in the final 2:26, including a 3-pointer by the freshman guard. Kayden Clark (Oakhurst, NJ / Manasquan).
Leading 51-40 entering the fourth quarter, Le Moyne added five straight points before taking a 15-point lead on a fast break from the senior guard. Michelina Lombardi (Wynantskill, NY / Averill Park) at 4:37 am. A three-pointer from a sophomore guard Sophia Bonnell (Horseheads, NY / Horseheads / SUNY New Paltz) and laying freshman forward Rachel Lynch (Cork, Ireland / Putnam Science Academy (Conn.)) gave the team a game-best 18-point cushion.
Geneseo scored eight of the final 10 points but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Dolphins held on for their second win of the season, 67-55.
What’s next:Le Moyne opens NEC play on Friday, Jan. 2 at 6:00 p.m., when it hosts Saint Francis at Ted Grant Court.
