Former Finger Lakes jail deputy faces child porn and weapons charges, troopers say

Waterloo, NY – A former Seneca County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer is facing child pornography and firearms charges, police said.

Robert T. Williams, 32, of Waterloo, was arrested Dec. 23, according to a State Police news release.

He was charged with felony possession of child sexual performance and felony possession of a firearm, both felonies.

Williams was in possession of an unregistered handgun when police executed the search warrant, said Lynnea Crane, state police spokeswoman.

Troopers began the investigation after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in September about suspected sexual exploitation, officers said.

Search warrants and forensic analysis led to the arrest, they said.

Williams resigned from his job on the day of his arrest, Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson said.

The sheriff said he was told the alleged pornography was found on Williams’ phone. Thompson said state police told him there was no evidence Williams was doing anything illegal while on the job.

Thompson said Williams was hired and promoted under previous administrations.

The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
