Homer, N.Y. – State police discovered a large cache of firearms, ammunition and drugs in a Cortland County home last week.
More than 40 rifles, shotguns and handguns were found Wednesday at the Homer residence of father and son Jeffrey and Clayton Carley, according to a news release from Trooper Ag Tinker, a state police spokesman.
Dozens of marijuana plants and several ounces of psilocybin mushrooms were also found, she said.
Officers were initially involved in the case after a person reported their dirt bike stolen in August 2024 in Oswego County.
The stolen dirt bike was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace by Clayton Carley earlier this month, Tinker said.
The soldiers went to his house to question him. Carley told them the bike had been sold, but Tinker said she was “evasive, dismissive and uncooperative.”
Officers later returned with a search warrant and found guns and drugs.
Clayton Carley, 26, and Jeffrey Carley, 60, face a number of charges, including possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Troopers later learned the stolen dirt bike had been sold to a person living near Buffalo, Tinker said.
The buyer agreed to turn it over to state police, she said.
