Auburn, NY – A 2-month-old baby has a fractured skull after his father threw a video game hard drive aimed at the child’s mother, city police said.
The child also suffered a brain bleed, police said. The child is at Upstate University Hospital, Auburn police said in a news release today.
Jason L. Brown, 33, faces five charges, including second-degree assault and criminal possession of a firearm. Police later found three illegal firearms during a search of his home.
Tuesday, police responded to Auburn Community Hospital for a report of child abuse, officers said.
They found the child’s father threw the hard drive at his girlfriend, but it hit their child, who she was holding at the time, police said in a news release.
It is not clear where the child was injured. Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard has reached out to Auburn police for more information.
The child has since been transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
After discovering that Brown may be in possession of illegal weapons, the police search his home. They found a Taurus semi-automatic handgun with a loaded magazine and two AR-style rifles, police said.
Brown was arrested and charged with:
- 2nd Degree Assault (Felony)
- 2nd degree attempted assault (felony)
- Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Felony)
- 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon (misdemeanor)
- Endangering the welfare of a child (misdemeanor)
Police say Brown could face additional charges. He was taken to the Cayuga County Jail for the ZIP charges.
