Syracuse, NY – Two people were displaced after a house fire Sunday afternoon on Syracuse’s North Side.
The fire at 112 Highland Ave. was reported around 12:30 p.m
When firefighters first arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home, according to Capt. Erik Caster, a spokesman for the Syracuse Fire Department. It took about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire.
One person was injured trying to get out of the home and was taken to Upstate University Hospital, Caster said. He did not have further information about the person’s condition.
The first floor of the home was damaged in the fire, Caster said. The rest of the structure suffered smoke and water damage.
Investigators determined the fire was an accident and started in a first-floor bedroom, Caster said.
The specific cause remains unknown due to many factors that cannot be ruled out, he said.
