Landslide takes the access from the 25 de Abril Bridge to the A5 towards Lisbon-Cascais

A new landslide, in kilometer 1 of the A5, in the Lisbon-Cascais direction, forced the access of the 25 de Abril Bridge to that highway to be cut.

Initially, traffic continued to circulate, but with restrictions, but the road ended up being closed. “The alternative for those leaving the bridge and wanting to enter the A5 is to exit towards Alcântara or Monsanto”, informed Brisa, the company that has the concession for those road infrastructures.

A source from the Lisbon PSP Traffic Division had told Lusa, at around 3:40 pm, that a new landslide had occurred at kilometer 1, on the way up to Monsanto, in the same place where another one occurred on Wednesday.

According to the same source, there is “a strong arrangement of resources” at the scene, between PSP and GNR agents, adding that “there was no damage to vehicles”.

At the time, the same source admitted a reduction in traffic and added “there is no predictability of the reopening time”.

On Wednesday, traffic on the A5 was blocked in the Lisbon–Cascais direction, from the Duarte Pacheco viaduct to Cruz das Oliveiras (kilometer 1), after a landslide blocked two lanes, at around 7:20 pm.

Traffic on the A5 reopened today at 6:27 am on two of the four lanes in the Lisbon-Cascais direction, after cleaning work was completed, according to the GNR.

“During the night, debris was removed due to Wednesday’s collapse. There are[06:30]members of Brisa, the motorway concessionaire, on site, assessing the situation. There is still no forecast for normalization as the embankment will have to be stabilized”, he said at the time.
