Update: Onondaga County was placed under a lake snow warning Friday and Saturday

At 4:42 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated Lake Effect Snow Warning in effect from 7:00 a.m. Friday until 7:00 a.m. Saturday for Onondaga County.

“Heavy lake-effect snow is expected. Snow totals between 6 and 12 inches north of Interstate 90, with locally 12 to 18 inches from Clay north to Brewerton. Lower amounts of 1 to 5 inches are expected south of Interstate 90, with totals of 3 to 6 inches in the city of Syracuse,” the weather service added. “A very tight boundary is expected with accumulation of snowfall from south to north across the county.”

“Travel may be very difficult. Hazardous conditions could affect the Friday morning and evening commute,” the weather service said. “If you must travel, keep a flashlight, extra food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency. Call 5 1 1 for the latest road conditions for the state you are calling from.”
