The National Republican Guard (GNR) announced this Saturday, February 7, the arrest of 11 members of an alleged drug trafficking network in five municipalities in the districts of Viseu and Porto. In a statement, the GNR says that the Viseu Territorial Command detained eight men and three women, aged between 19 and 41, for committing the crime of drug trafficking.
The operation, entitled “Hydra”, took place as part of an investigation that began in December 2023. The network operated in the center of the country and sold drugs near schools. The arrests were carried out by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Moimenta da Beira Territorial Detachment and took place in the municipalities of Tabuaço, Sernancelhe, Penedono, São João da Pesqueira (Viseu district) and Vila Nova de Gaia (Porto district).
The Guard military officers carried out 11 arrest warrants outside of flagrante delicto and 21 search warrants, 14 of homes and seven of vehicles and agricultural outbuildings. During the operation, 27 doses of hashish were seized, “drug cutting and packaging material”, a compressed air rifle, a box of pellets, ten knives and five razors.
The GNR says that the suspects have already been present at the Viseu Judicial Court, the coercive measure of preventive detention was applied to two men, aged 19 and 21. The measure prohibiting contact between all those involved was applied to the remaining defendants, as well as a ban on access to the municipality of Tabuaço. The police operation involved around 80 military personnel, with the support of the Porto Public Security Police Command (PSP).
