Depression Marta brings more rain. Costa and 13 districts on orange alert

The entire coastal strip of mainland Portugal is this Saturday, February 7th, under orange warning – the second most serious – due to strong sea unrest, with thirteen districts remaining at the same alert level, due to precipitation and wind. According to a statement issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro are under an orange warning due to the forecast of waves that could reach 12 to 13 meters in height on the west coast and 4 to 5 meters on the south coast.

This alert, issued at 06:16, is in force until 18:00 in Viana do Castelo and Braga, and until 21:00 in Porto, while in the remaining districts it lasts until Sunday morning, with the exception of Coimbra where the forecast points to a slowdown from 03:00. Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja, Portalegre, Castelo Branco and Évora are under orange warning until 12:00 today, due to “persistent and sometimes heavy rain”.

The same alert level is in force until 3pm today, in the Setúbal, Beja, Faro and Leiria districts, extending until 6pm in Lisbon, due to the “strong southwest wind with gusts of up to 100 km/h, with up to 120 km/h in the mountains”.

On the other hand, in the districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, Bragança, Viseu and Vila Real, the orange warning will be in force until 00:00 on Sunday, given the possibility of snowfall above 1,600 meters in height, with accumulation exceeding 25 centimeters in areas located more than 1,400 meters in height.
