Depressions Kristin and Leonardo Leave 93 Thousand People Without Electricity, says E-Redes

A total of 93 thousand E-Redes customers were still without electricity supply at 12pm on Friday, 6th, following the passage of depressions Kristin and Leonardo across the Portuguese mainland, the company announced.

In information sent to the Lusa agency, E-Redes stated that at that time, in the most critical areas, breakdowns resulting from the Kristin depression affected 74 thousand customers.

According to the company, the Leiria district had the largest number of customers without electricity supply, with 49 thousand, followed by Santarém, with 18 thousand, Castelo Branco, with five thousand, and Coimbra, with two thousand customers without electricity.

The previous balance, released at 3:30 pm on Thursday, indicated that there were 89 thousand customers without electricity supply, a number that has since increased due to the persistence of bad weather.

Thirteen people have died in Portugal since last week following the passage of depressions Kristin and Leonardo, which also caused many hundreds of injuries and displacement.

The total or partial destruction of homes, businesses and equipment, the fall of trees and structures, the closure of roads, schools and transport services, and the cut of energy, water and communications are the main material consequences of the storm.

The Centro, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and Alentejo regions are the most affected.

The Government extended the calamity situation until the 15th for 68 municipalities, which will benefit from support measures of up to 2.5 billion euros.

The calamity situation in mainland Portugal was initially declared between January 28th and February 1st for around 60 municipalities, and was then extended until the 8th for 68 municipalities, before being extended again until February 15th.
