Generations of migrants from a town on the coast of southern Italy found a better life in Venezuela. Many returned and turned it into a miniature Caracas.

I am in front of a statue of Simón Bolívar, hero of the independence of South America. Next to it, a stand selling “hot dogs” attracts a line of people, while a few steps away a sign in Spanish says “Playa Flamingo,” with a Venezuelan flag fluttering in the wind.
