Registrations of electrified motor vehicles in Portugal rose 51.1% in January 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, driven by strong increases in the passenger car, goods and heavy vehicle segments, according to the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP).
In the first month of the year, there were 13,292 registrations of electrified (new) vehicles, of which 12,674 were passenger cars — a growth of 48.8% year on year. Within this segment, 4,341 100% electric vehicles (BEV) were registered, an increase of 33% compared to January 2025. Rechargeable electric vehicles (ECV) totaled 6,750 units and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) 2,409.
In the light goods market, 456 electrified units were registered (+68.3%), including 428 BEVs, which grew by 58.5%. The number of hybrids plug‑in in this segment it was residual but with high percentage variations due to very low bases.
The highlight goes to electrified heavy vehicles, with 162 registrations in January, which represents a jump of 1,250% compared to January 2025, even though the comparison basis is reduced.
