Mexico, Brazil and Chile formally presented the candidacy of Michelle Bachelet for the position of Secretary General of the United Nations (UN).
The former President of Chile is a prominent figure in the multilateral system, with experience as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Executive Director of UN Women.
His candidacy reflects the will of the three countries to strengthen the multilateral system and promote leadership capable of responding to current challenges.
Bachelet’s experience in leading complex political processes, her ability to facilitate dialogue, and her commitment to the core values of the United Nations make her an ideal candidate to lead the organization.
“Michelle Bachelet’s nomination represents an opportunity to provide the HIM of leadership with proven experience, international legitimacy and a vocation for public service,” is highlighted in the joint statement from the three countries.
Bachelet’s candidacy is a step towards a more effective, representative UN oriented towards the well-being of people.
