Pedro Fonseca, who led the fight against corruption

Pedro Fonseca, senior criminal investigation coordinator, spent a large part of his career at UNCCfirst at the then Central Directorate for the Investigation of Corruption and Economic and Financial Crime (DCICCEF), between 2001 and 2006; then at UNCC between 2009 and 2019, where he left for the Lisbon Board, to return in 2022, this time as director, a position he has held to date.

He has a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in Economic and European Criminal Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.

According to the CV note attached to the appointment order published in Diário da República, Pedro Fonseca has been an external trainer at the Institute of Judicial Police and Criminal Sciences, in the area of ​​Criminal Procedural Law, since 2008.

He was also a guest trainer at the Center for Judicial Studies (CEJ); from the Anti-Corruption Commission of Timor-Leste, in 2014; in the Postgraduate Course in Criminal Investigation and Evidence Law, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon; and in the Master’s and Degree in Internal and Operational Auditing, from the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa.

He was also an Advisor to the National Anti-Doping Council (CNAD), the National Anti-Doping Authority (ADOP) and is Coordinator of the National Platform aimed at dealing with the manipulation of sports competitions, since 2024.

The appointment, proposed by Luís Neves, was signed by the Minister of Justice, Rita Júdice, and began to take effect on February 1st.
