Around 31 thousand square meters of tarpaulins “are on their way to the municipalities of Leiria, Pombal and Coimbra, areas particularly affected by bad weather” and devastated by storm Kristin during the early hours of last Wednesday, January 28, announced the company that manages the national electricity network Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) and the insurance company Fidelidade, in a joint statement.
According to the companies, “around 31 thousand square meters of tarpaulins will be made available, the equivalent of four and a half football fields, intended for the temporary protection of infrastructure damaged by the storm, namely roofs of homes and commercial establishments, until it is possible to proceed with definitive repairs”.
According to the same source, it will be the local authorities that will “coordinate its distribution [das lonas] as early as logistically possible with parishes and populations, allowing a quick response and mitigating additional risks resulting from exposure to adverse weather conditions”.
From this Sunday, February 1st and Monday, a further worsening of the weather is expected, with more rain and strong winds on the way.
The same statement highlights that this support from companies takes place “as part of their social responsibility policies and in response to the most urgent needs of the population, they decided to join forces to support the most affected communities”.
With this joint initiative, REN and Fidelidade reinforce their commitment to supporting populations in times of greatest vulnerability, putting their resources at the service of protecting people and communities.
