New evidence reveals that ISIS may be using brutal chemical weapons against its opponents. The news comes as some say the president’s tactics cannot defeat the powerful Islamist terror group. The White House continues to receive criticism for what some see as a flawed battle plan against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, which is believed to be using chemical weapons against its enemies. Photos obtained by the Middle East Review of International Affairs show the bodies of Syrian Kurds who were apparently gassed by ISIS in the Kobani area earlier this year. Israeli Middle East analyst Jonathan Spyer, who edited the report, says the photos suggest mustard gas or other blisters were used. The attack came after ISIS took control of a region where Saddam Hussein was said to have stored chemical agents. Iraq should not have had chemical weapons. The media repeated this to Americans over and over again. But the New York Times now reports that American soldiers have been exposed to chemical weapons numerous times since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. According to the report, the Pentagon withheld the discovery of approximately 5,000 chemical weapons from investigators. Meanwhile, President Obama defends his much-criticized strategy against ISIS. “This is an operation that engages the world against ISIS,” the president told reporters. “Our coalition is united around this long-term effort.” Still, the White House admitted that the air campaign alone is not enough to defeat the Islamic State. “The airstrikes will have an impact, but that impact is limited by the fact that there are no forces on the ground that can follow up on these airstrikes and end this siege,” White House spokesman Josh Ernest told reporters. In Baghdad, CBN News reporter Chuck Holton says ISIS is doing a great job of manipulating the American media. “If they can threaten Baghdad and make the American media go berserk about it, that’s almost as good as taking Baghdad, because this group is very good in the media battle space. They’re very good at winning on the media front,” Holton said. “And there is concern that the White House will lose its allies in the region if the president is not willing to commit the ground forces to doing their job properly,” he said. “And do whatever it takes to defeat a deadly enemy.
