There will be a brief lull in the snow this afternoon, but the National Weather Service says more persistent lake-effect snow is expected in central New York this evening.
The weather advisory is in effect until Friday afternoon.
This evening’s lake-effect snow will transition to narrow bands of lake-effect snow late tonight into Friday morning.
The weather service is predicting additional snow accumulations of between 1 and 4 inches for Oneida, Cayuga, Onondaga and Madison counties. Locally higher amounts of 4 to 6 inches are possible across northern Onondaga County and northwestern Madison County.
Oswego County remains under a winter storm warning for more severe conditions. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are expected, with the heaviest amounts predicted for Tug Hill and the western half of the county. Wind chills below freezing are expected through Friday morning.
The weather service warns that travel will be very difficult in Oswego County as widespread snow accumulation creates hazardous conditions. Slick road conditions are expected to affect the Thursday night and Friday morning commute in all affected counties.
