The Oswego boys basketball team is having a rollercoaster season so far.
The Buccaneers opened the campaign with a 3-0 record. After that, Oswego faced some tough opponents – including Nottingham, East Syracuse Minoa and others – and lost four in a row.
However, the Bucs were determined to break out of their funk. That came Wednesday when Oswego beat Auburn 69-58 at home.
“It was a good team win,” Oswego coach Bob Connelly said. “We had some nice even points. We had some kids step up and pick things up well.”
Thanks to several losses and weather delays, the Bucs got their first win in almost a month, beating Central Square on December 19, 2025.
Connelly noted that last Saturday’s loss to Rome Free Academy was a springboard for Oswego to turn things around Wednesday.
“We needed it,” Connelly said. “We’ve played some good teams in recent weeks so it’s good to get back into the win column.”
Eddie Kuzawski led the Bucs with 19 points. Daniel Callen chipped in 13 points and Julius Garabito and Joshua Hayden each had eight points.
Oswego held a 54-40 lead after three quarters and held the Maroons in check the rest of the way.
“We started fast and kept good balance,” Connelly said. “Hopefully we can keep things rolling in every game we play from here.
Jaylen Homick paced Auburn with 17 points. Braydon Lanning scored 14 points while LeShawn Blackburn contributed 11.
The Bucs (4-4) take on Jamesville-DeWitt on Friday at 6:45 p.m.
“JD will take care of the ball and they will pressure us,” Connelly said. “We’re going to go to (JD) and see what happens. It’s going to be fun, so we’ll see what we can do.”
The Maroons (2-7) host PSLA @ Fowler on Friday at 6:45 p.m
