The Cats have extended Tyson Stengle’s holiday as injuries hit the Magpies, Blues and Roos

Motlop, who has signed a two-year deal to stay with Carlton, suffered the injury in training on Monday. Archer, who has had an injury-plagued career so far, received the results of scans after going down with a right knee injury at training on Saturday.

Blues football boss Chris Davies said Motlop was a resilient figure who was now focusing on his rehabilitation.

“Jesse has put in a lot of hard work in pre-season so we really feel for him at the moment,” Davies said.

“While there is an understandable disappointment now, Jesse is a consummate professional who has great resilience which will help him as he goes through the recovery process.”

The Blues are training Elijah Hollands and Will White with the club hoping to earn a roster spot through the pre-season supplemental process.

Archer, the son of North Melbourne great Glenn, played just three games last season due to suspension and injury.

Adelaide youngster Tom Cochrane also suffered a “significant” hamstring injury on Monday that will force him to miss the start of the season.
