A new movie recently wrapped filming in downtown New York.
Variety presents “Situation #64,” starring Hari Nef (“Barbie”), Louisa Jacobson (“The Gilded Age”) and Oliver Edwin (“LBJ”), quietly produced in Skaneateles last month. Jake Casey of Syracuse’s The Dazey Phase is among the film’s producers.
The psychological drama follows Nef as a performer who reunites with her former acting partner and lover (Edwin) to rehearse her final piece. When his new partner (Jacobson) joins them, secrets emerge and “the line between work and reality blurs.”
Edwin, whose credits include HBO’s “Divorce” and several short films, will make his directorial debut from an original screenplay he wrote. According to Variety , the #64″ situation has been picked for the 2024 Tribeca Creator’s Market.
Jacobson, the youngest daughter of Meryl Streep, is best known for playing Marian Brook in the Emmy Award-winning series The Gilded Age. She also appeared in “The Materialists” alongside Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans.
Nef, a transgender actress who appeared as Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film “Barbie,” will produce “Situation #64” for the first time. Her credits also include “Transparent,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” HBO’s “The Idol” and the upcoming Candy Darling biopic, which she also wrote.
“I can finally say I’m making a movie with my friends. Oliver is a young auteur of rare precision and sensitivity. Louisa is deeply talented and kind,” Nef told Variety. “Situation #64 is the kind of movie I’ve always wanted to make, and unlike anything I’ve made before.”
Producers include The Space Program’s Lizzie Shapiro and Lexi Tannenholtz; Jason De Beer of Escape Route Films; and Casey, whose first major co-production, “The Hallowarrior,” with Milly Shapiro (“Hereditary”) and Shannyn Sossamon (“A Knight’s Tale”), shot scenes in Jordan and Tully last year.
Casey, who grew up in Onondaga Hill and recently turned his attention to film production before attending West Genesee High School to pursue a professional ballet career. He told syracuse.com that he wants to help build a “sustainable film ecosystem” in his hometown.
“We really want to give back to this community as much as possible and create a fairer way of working in this industry,” Casey said in 2024. “I’d love to do fun weird stories that are transcendent and can play in theaters and also be on streaming platforms and continue what we’re doing.”
A release date for “Situation #64” has not been announced.
