After accusations from Petro, Daniel Noboa rejects alleged bombings of Colombia

Last week, Ecuador attacked a FARC dissident training camp in the border province of Sucumbíos.

“President Petro, your statements are false; we are acting in our territory, not yours,” wrote Noboa, whose country is part of the “Shield of the Americas”an alliance of 17 countries on the continent created by the United States to confront security threats.

Tension between Ecuador and Colombia

Ecuador and Colombia They share a border of about 600 km where Colombian guerrillas and criminal organizations from both countries circulate dedicated to the trafficking of drugs, weapons, people and illegal mining.

The accusations arise in the midst of a trade war that began in February and affects imports, energy cooperation and crude oil transportation.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld said that Ecuador and Colombia will soon attend “a dialogue table through the Andean Community” with a view to “resuming the conversations” in February in Quito.

“We are asking Colombia to increase your border control capabilities (…) to be able to lower the level of violence and insecurity, not only in Ecuador, but also in the entire Western Hemisphere,” Sommerfeld insisted in an interview with the Teleamazonas channel.
