The vice-president of the Russian energy company Gazprom Anton Dzhaliabov was arrested this Friday, February 27, on suspicion of accepting bribes, allegedly in the order of 30 million rubles (around 318 thousand euros).
“Agents from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation detained the vice-chairman of the board of directors of Gazprom Neft, suspected of having accepted bribes,” the spokeswoman for that authority, Irina Volk, wrote on the digital platform Telegram.
According to the TASS news agency, the investigation found that Dzhaliabov will have certified ongoing and unfinished construction projects to guarantee payments and protect subcontractors from possible fines for non-compliance with pre-established deadlines.
The criminal process includes two cases of bribery, with the proceeds allegedly used by the businessman to buy a luxury apartment in the tourist resort of Sochi, as well as a boat.
In 2025, it was proven by Russian authorities that a former executive of a regional subsidiary of Gazprom bribed the then governor of the Tambov region, Maxim Yegorov.
Following sanctions imposed on Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine and the four-year-old war, Gazprom Neft, the Gazprom group’s oil subsidiary, performed better financially than the conglomerate’s gas division.
