‘Resident Evil Requiem’ returned to the beginnings of Raccoon City

After 30 years of new main titles and loads of spin-offs, It’s surprising that Capcom has engineered itself to maintain the relevance of its particular formula of terror and survival. After the previous two games focused on the plight of Ethan Winters and his quest to rebuild his family, Requiem it seeks a new beginning for the narrative by making connections with the original aspects of the plot.

The result of e.g a game of strong contrastsin all feelings. Grace is surrounded by a burdensome world, a mental state best exploited by a traumatic past and a terrible disposition to lay it against her heart. Rhodes Hill Medical Center takes us back to Spencer’s mansion, the commissary, or Baker’s hacienda, enclaves that have made it to the Olympus of terror games on their own merits. The map is complete, full of puzzles, truths and extreme situations; the beat is spectacular, every millimeter step to sing the sequences masterfully; and the audio visual presentation is simply amazing.

Conversely, the second story, in Raccoon City devastated by a nuclear fallout, is less interesting. The game switches sides, abandoning terror in favor of despondent actioncompletely arcade. Leon continues to gain zombie-like points and uses them as usual to obtain more powerful weapons, useful mods and raudale.
