Brisa explained this Wednesday, February 25, in parliament that the landslide that occurred on the A5 (Lisbon-Cascais), in the Monsanto area, resulted from an “abnormal” volume of water and said that the technical analysis to define the solution will be completed next week.
The president of the Brisa Group’s executive committee, António Pires de Lima, and member Manuel Melo Ramos were heard this morning at the Infrastructure, Mobility and Housing Committee, at Chega’s request, to talk about the maintenance of the A1 and A5 motorways, following incidents caused by the storms that ravaged the country.
Asked about the traffic conditions observed since February 11th in kilometer one of the A5, on the way up to Monsanto, due to a landslide, Manuel Melo Ramos highlighted that “the affected slope is large” and that it extends beyond the concession area, covering the Monsanto forest area.
“We verified that the drainage systems, both in the concession area and in the Monsanto forest, worked well for decades and ensured their function of stabilizing the slope. There was no sign of instability”he highlighted.
Manuel Melo Ramos said that the “exceptional volume of water”, caused by recent storms, led to the instability of the soil and the dragging of mud and stones onto the road, leading, at first, to the preventive closure of three of the four roads in the Lisbon-Cascais direction.
