UN launches PEPA brand, common infrastructure for outdoor university book

PUSH Unión de Editoriales Universitarias Españolas (UNE) I presented this Tuesday Editorial platform for outdoor publicationsbaked like PEPA. This new technological infrastructure aims to centralize and organize the production of open access monographs of the 73 university editorial offices and research centers that make up the association.

The project is on schedule management and diffusion tool which seeks to complement the international standards of open science and improve the presence of Spanish investigations in the global academic circuit.

Funded through Ayudas María de Guzmán from the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT), the platform is created in an instant transition to scientific communication models. The aim of the initiative is to consolidate an editorial ecosystem where the production of investigative books is more accessible and better connected to European networks.

By bringing together the output of decades of institutions into a single point, the UN aims not only to increase the visibility of these works, but also ensure digital preservation a wide square in an interoperable environment or the sea, suitable for exchange.

From a technical and managerial point of view, the platform is based on the name Diamond Road. This publication model is characterized by the fact that publication costs are consumed by institutions, which enables Neither do authors have to pay fees for publishing their research, nor do readers have to sign up for their consultation.

With this structure, university editorials refer to a scholarly communication system that favors free access over the subscription or pay-per-publication models that prevail in other sectors of the scholarly publishing market.

In terms of functionality, the PEPA architecture is complete FÉR principles (subject to, accessible, interoperable and reusable). These international best practice standards for scientific data management ensure that containers are easily retrievable by search engines and compatible with other global databases.

The platform also enables a metadata exchange which facilitates that research published in Spanish centers has greater traceability and the ability to be cited in international contexts.

The platform is also in line with new trends in the evaluation of investigative activity. In accordance with the principles of the Declaration of San Francisco (DORA) and the Coalición para el Avance de la Evaluación de la Investigación (CoARA), the project supports qualitative evaluation criteria.

The goal is for the assessment of a work not to depend solely on traditional impact metrics, but on editorial quality and transparency of the processaspects that PEPA documents through persistent identifiers such as DOI and ORCID.

Site navigation has been designed to allow you to search specifically for knowledge areas, authors and editorials. Users can find books that are listed with it CEA-APQ quality sealan honor that accredits excellence in academic writing.

Each bibliographic file contains detailed information regarding the license to use, options for exporting citations, and attachments for obtaining copies obtained in cases where the editors retain the option of low-cost sales through Unebook.

The official presentation took place this Tuesday the headquarters of FECYT, located in the Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (MUNCYT) de Alcobendas in Madrid. This major contribution is the culmination of an information campaign aimed in recent weeks at translating the technical and administrative implications of this new approach to knowledge dissemination into the academic community.
