“The explosion against the outer wall of a Jewish school in Buitenveldert constitutes an act of unprecedented cowardice. Its clear intention was to instill fear, and it was aimed at a community that is already under immense pressure. Detonating explosives in a school, thus terrorizing parents and children, is extremely reprehensible and irresponsible,” said Halsema.

And he stressed that Amsterdam’s Jewish schools and institutions have constant security protection. “Following the incidents in Liège and Rotterdam, security measures were reinforced, in close consultation with the national security services. In addition to specific measures, a regime of constant and reinforced surveillance was established. As a result, the police were able to act immediately and recordings of the moment the explosive was placed and detonated have been obtained.”

For its part, the Israeli Foreign Ministry this Saturday asked the Government of the Netherlands to take more measures to stop what he called an epidemic of anti-Semitism which he indicated is wreaking havoc, as the school is the only one for Orthodox Jews in the Netherlands and is largely surrounded by a spiked metal outer wall due to previous threats.

“We were able to see its scope in the pogrom against Israelis in Amsterdam in November 2024, in the attack on the Rotterdam synagogue two days ago, in the attack carried out yesterday against a Jewish school in Amsterdam. Where will the next attack take place? “The Dutch government must do much more to combat anti-Semitism,” the Ministry stated in its X account.

The Minister of Justice and Security of the Netherlands, David van Weel, reported that an investigation has been launched to find those responsible.

“For the second year in a row, a cowardly attack with an explosive device against a Jewish building. First in Rotterdam, now in Amsterdam. Thanks to security measures and surveillance, further damage was avoided. The security of Jewish institutions is our top priority. An investigation has been launched to find those responsible,” he highlighted.

And they made it clear that they will not allow these types of acts. “I just spoke with the mayors of the region about the explosions in Jewish buildings. We do not tolerate intimidation against the Jewish community. “Together, we are doing everything we can to ensure their safety.”
