The energy crisis in Cuba worsened this Monday, March 16, with the collapse of the electricity grid, as announced by the company responsible for managing electricity in the country, causing a total blackout.
Around 10 million people were left without electricity, according to Reuters, in a country facing a deep economic crisis and fuel shortages, which have led to blackouts lasting up to 10 hours. The electricity failures led, in fact, this weekend to a rare protest in the country that has been governed by the Communist Party for more than 60 years.
“There has been a total power outage in the National Electric System. Restoration protocols are being implemented,” informed the Unión Eléctrica de Cuba.
