1934. Students from Madrid and Lisbon competed in Iberian ‘derbies’

The first day of the event, in Lisbon, featured detailed coverage by DN, from the opening ceremony, in which they heard the anthems of Portugal and Spain, to the late trip of a delegation of students from Madrid who, accompanied by “some of their comrades from Lisbon”, went to the headquarters of the “Sporting Club of Portugal, where they were honored with a ‘Porto de Honra’”. The first day of competition would result in two records, both Spanish: the best mark in 100 meters and in the discus throw.
