They were 375 companies that declared insolvency in February and constitutions decreased by 26%. The month was marked by storms that devastated the central area, especially the Leiria area.
At issue is a increase of 39% (106 more) compared to the same month last year, according to data from Iberinform. The accumulated number of processes in this scope in January and February they increased by 38% (220 more) compared to the same period in 2025, for a total of 805 cases.
The rise is mainly linked to the 85% growth in insolvency declarations requested by third parties. There were 168 requests, 77 more than in February of last year. Declarations presented by the companies themselves grew by 15%.
Os greatest absolute growth occurred in Porto and Lisbonin the order of 202 and 177, respectively. The numbers correspond to decreases of 51% and 23%in the same order.
By activity sectors, the biggest increases in the number of insolvencies were recorded in Telecommunications (200% increase); Hotel and Restaurant Industry (105%); Construction and Public Works (66%) and Transport (55%). The transformation sector broke the rule, dropping 50%.
Constitutions retreat
The number of companies incorporated in February fell 27% in February. At stake is a total of 3,881 new registrations, after the 5,284 that marked the same month in 2025.
Of these, 2,826 occurred in Lisbon and 1,620 in Porto. At stake are reductions of 12% and 9%respectively. By sectors, the biggest cuts occurred in Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing (-43%)Telecommunications (-29%), Retail Trade (-29%) and Transport (-25%). The only increase concerns the Electricity, Gas, Water sector, in which constitutions advanced 41%, in the annual comparison.
Since the beginning of 2026, took place 9,353 constitutions, 13% less than in the same period.
