Separately, in his X account, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated that transforming an alliance against drug trafficking into an ideological alliance represents “a substantial error” and called for maintaining cooperation between countries on the continent regardless of political differences.
The Colombian president pointed out that neither Brazilneither Mexico nor Colombia—countries considered key in the fight against drug trafficking—were invited to the Shield of the Americas Summita situation that, he stated, was not due to the will of the president of United States, Donald Trump.
Given this, Petro insisted on the need to rescue the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean above the ideological differences between governments.
Likewise, he maintained that the alliance against drug trafficking must include all the countries of the Americas without exclusions, due to the magnitude of the problem.
