Registration Open with New Category for Students

The airline TAP Air Portugal has opened registrations for the third edition of the Altitude Film Fest, a festival of short films shown on board the company’s planes. Interested filmmakers can submit films until April 30th for the Fiction and Documentary categories. The main novelty for this year is that the festival also has a new category aimed at film students.

The initiative gained attention from the Brazilian public in the last edition, when Brazilian photographer Luís Dalvan won the documentary category with ‘Between Earth and Heaven’. The result was announced in Lisbon on World Cinema Day, in November 2025, and published by DN Brazil. The film, described as a “visual poem about the soul of Portugal”, was the most voted among the five finalists in the category and will remain available on the entertainment system on board TAP planes until November 2026.

Created in 2024, the Altitude Film Fest shows selected short films on the company’s flights during the months of September and October. Passengers act as the competition’s jury and participate in choosing the winners, being responsible for 60% of the final score, while the other 40% is in charge of a jury made up of film professionals.

In the first two editions, the festival received more than 400 applications from 45 countries and the finalist films were seen by around 60 thousand passengers.

To participate, films must be partly filmed in Portugal or address elements linked to Portuguese culture. In total, ten fiction shorts and ten documentaries will be selected, of which five finalists in each category will be voted on board. Just like last year, the winners will be announced in Lisbon on World Cinema Day, on November 5th.

Registration for Altitude Film Fest is open until April 30th. The selected films will be shown on TAP flights between September and October 2026, during which time passengers will be able to vote for the finalist works. Winners of the Fiction and Documentary categories receive a €1500 prize towards travel on the airline’s network, whilst the new student competition will have a €1000 prize.
