José Sócrates, defendant in the Marquês case, is again without a lawyer, after Marco António Amaro asked the Bar Association (OA) for an excuse on Monday (March 9).
According to information provided by CNNthe request for an excuse reached the Lisbon regional council of the Bar Association.
The new unofficial lawyer had been appointed by the Order after Sara Leitão Moreira, chosen by Sócrates, decided to abandon the defense of the main accused in the Marquês operation.
This request for refusal by Marco António Amaro should lead to a new stoppage in the trial, whose sessions are scheduled to resume on the 17th.
If Sócrates does not present a lawyer, the Lisbon Regional Council of the Order will have to draw a new name to defend the former prime minister.
Marco António Amaro was the fourth lawyer appointed to represent Sócrates in this process. It is worth remembering that lawyers Pedro Delille, José Preto and Sara Leitão Moreira had already resigned from defending the former governor.
