Insurance calls for the return of negotiations for an agreement on labor legislation

“My hope is that returning to the negotiating table will lead to a balanced agreement. That is my wish”, António José Seguro limited himself to saying in the face of journalists’ insistence on knowing whether he will veto the law if there is no agreement between the parties.

Speaking to Lusa this Monday, March 9, the president of the Confederation of Commerce and Services of Portugal (CCP), João Vieira Lopes, ruled out further negotiations in social consultation. “It is not foreseen. The government will now define a position: whether to take the legislation to the Assembly of the Republic and in what format, whether the initial one or whether some contributions will be incorporated. It remains at that point.”

Quoted by Lusa, the Minister of Economy, Manuel Castro Almeida, said this morning, on the sidelines of the Banca 2026 Forum, that “if there is no agreement it is not due to the Government’s lack of will, because the Government intensely wanted to make the agreement and intensely wants the agreement”.

The minister was asked whether the law will move forward even without an agreement on social consultation and replied “we’ll see”.
