Lufthansa extends suspension of flights to the Middle East until April

The German airline Lufthansa announced this Monday, 9th, that it will extend the suspension of its flights to and from several important airports in the Middle East, namely in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Israel and Iran, on the tenth day of the war.

Therefore, flights to and from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Amman (Jordan) and Erbil (Iraq) are suspended until March 15th inclusive. Until March 28, inclusive, flights to and from Beirut were suspended and until April 2, inclusive, flights to and from Tel Aviv.

Finally, Tehran, the most affected destination, will not be served by the air group until April 30 inclusive, according to the AFP agency.

The United States and Israel launched a military attack against Iran on February 28, killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader since 1989, during the offensive.

Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz and launched retaliatory attacks against targets in Israel, US bases and other infrastructure in countries in the region such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Oman and Iraq.

The conflict led to widespread disruptions to air transport in the region, with several airlines suspending operations at airports in the affected regions.

Since the beginning of the conflict, more than a thousand deaths have been recorded, most of them Iranians.
