WASHINGTON.- The president of the United States, Donald Trumpstated that Iran “has surrendered to its neighbors” and warned that US forces are preparing a “very harsh” attack against the Islamic Republicin the midst of the military escalation in Middle East after the death of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Jameneí.
Trump made these statements on his social network Truth Social, after the Iranian president Masud Pezeshkian announced that Iran would suspend attacks against neighboring countries, unless aggression occurs from those territories.
“Iran, which is being brutally beaten, has apologized and surrendered to its Middle Eastern neighbors, promising not to shoot them again.”Trump wrote.
The US president assured that Iran stopped its attacks due to the “relentless attack by the United States and Israel.”
Trump threatens to expand attacks against Iran and speaks of “total destruction”
Trump’s recent statements included warnings about a possible expansion of military objectives against Iran.
“Today Iran will receive a severe blow! Serious consideration is being given to total destruction and death in areas and groups of people not previously targeted.”.
The US president also called Iran “the loser of the Middle East” and assured that Tehran’s aspirations for regional dominance are over.
In another message, Trump said: “Iran, which is being BEATEN THROUGHOUT, has apologized and surrendered to its Middle Eastern neighbors, promising not to shoot at them again.”.
Iran announces end to attacks on neighboring countries after military offensive
Hours before Trump’s statements, the Iranian president Masud Pezeshkian offered a televised message in which he announced that the government of Tehran decided to stop attacks against neighboring countries.
“I apologize […] to neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran”Pezeshkian declared in a speech broadcast on state television.
The president explained that the Leadership Councilcreated after Khamenei’s death, agreed to stop regional offensives.
“The Leadership Council decided yesterday to end attacks against neighboring countries, unless Iran is attacked from those territories”.
Pezeshkian also called on governments in the region “not to become instruments of imperialism.”
Iranian forces deny the president and threaten US bases
Despite the statements of the Iranian president, the military coordination that integrates the regular army and the Revolutionary Guard released a statement that contradicts that position.
The headquarters assured that, “as a continuation of previous offensive actions,” all US military bases will be the “primary objective” of its attacks.
Similarly, the National Security Committee Iranian indicated that the operations will continue “until the leader’s death is avenged,” referring to Khamenei.
Meanwhile, Israel bombed the Iranian capital again. The Israeli army attacked the Tehran Mehrabad International Airportwhere a large fire occurred.
In another Israeli attack that occurred in Lebanonat least 41 people died near Prophet Chitreflecting the regional expansion of the conflict.
