Five organizers of the new aid flotilla for Gaza detained in Tunisia

Tunisian security forces have detained five organizers of the new pro-Palestinian flotilla that was supposed to arrive in Gaza in the spring, activists from the NGO “Global Sumud Flotilla” announced.

The reasons for the detention of these five people, all Tunisians, were not immediately clear, leading the organization to ask for “immediate clarification”.

The group “strongly condemns today’s arrest of Tunisian organizers” of the “Global Sumud Flotilla”, the organization said in a statement. “Free Nabil Channoufi, Wael Naouar, Sana Msahli, Jawaher Channa, and Mohamed Amin Bannour,” it adds.

These arrests, “combined with repeated bans on legal demonstrations”, represent “a worrying break with Tunisia’s long history of solidarity with the Palestinian people”, the statement highlights.
