The unemployment rate in the euro zone fell to 6.2% in January, Eurostat announced this Wednesday, 4th, a slight drop compared to the 6.3% recorded in December 2025 and in the same month of the previous year. In the European Union as a whole, the indicator was 5.8%.
The European statistical service estimates that there are 12.928 million unemployed people in the EU, of which 10.770 million belong to the euro zone. Among the 27 Member States, the global rate was below the 6.0% in January 2025 and the 5.9% in December.
The lowest rates were reported in Bulgaria and Poland (3.1% each), followed by the Czech Republic (3.2%) and Malta (3.4%). Finland (10.2%), Spain (9.8%) and Sweden (8.7%) are in the highest positions in the ranking.
In Portugal, the unemployment rate remained stable across the board, standing at 5.6% in January — below the 6.3% recorded in January 2025.
