Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) launched this Wednesday, March 4, exactly 25 years after the collapse of the Hintze Ribeiro bridge, the public tender for the IC35 contract between Rans and Entre-os-Rios, in Penafiel, connecting this municipality to Castelo de Paiva.
According to a publication made in Diário da República (DR), at issue are R$89.5 million for the second phase of Complementary Itinerary 35 (IC35) and the contract lasts 720 daysthat is, practically two years to carry out the project.
Potential interested parties in carrying out the project have until April 16th to submit a proposal, and when evaluating applications, the price has a weighting factor of 80% and quality 20%.
On Friday, the mayor of Penafiel, Pedro Cepeda (PSD/CDS-PP), had already welcomed the launch of the competition for the second phase of IC35, which will connect Penafiel to Castelo de Paiva.
“It is a historic moment. In fact, it is a commitment of more than 25 years, which will now finally be fulfilled and, therefore, it is excellent news for the region, for the municipalities of Penafiel and Castelo de Paiva in particular, but for this entire region, and above all for the people who use the National Road (EN) 106 on a daily basis, and who with this alternative will be able to move around the municipality and the region more safely”, said the mayor to Lusa.
Of the planned 12 kilometers of this route of regional interest that was considered a priority in 2001, after the collapse of the Hintze Ribeiro bridge, only one kilometer was built, between Penafiel and Rans, with the section that will go from Rans to Entre-os-Rios remaining, the tender for which will now be launched.
Pedro Cepeda says that this decision is also a way of honoring the memory of the victims of the Entre-os-Rios tragedy and their families, regretting, however, that it took 25 years to fulfill this promise.
“It’s too long, it’s too long in fact. It’s been decades of waiting”, said the mayor, who understands the distrust on the part of the population in the face of this sign: “with the wear and tear it has suffered over these years, and often with advertisements that ended up being in vain about the progress of the work, the population only truly believes that the work will begin when they see the machines enter the land”.
