Trump suggests a trade “embargo” on Spain for its stance in the war against Iran

WASHINGTON.- This Tuesday, the president of the United States, Donald Trumpsuggested that he would impose a commercial “embargo” to Spain for his decision to prohibir a Washington to use the military bases in Spanish territory for the war against Iran.

During the meeting that Donald Trump held with the german chancellor, Friedrich Merzin it Oval Room of the White Housethe American president told the media, “Some European (countries), like Spain, have been terrible. In fact, I told Scott (Bessent, Treasury Secretary) to cut all deals with Spain.”

And he added, “It all started when I asked each European country to reach 5% (contributions to NATO), which is what they should be doing. Germany was enthusiastic, everyone was. Spain didn’t. And now Spain says we can’t use their bases. That’s over. We can use their bases if we want. We can fly and use them. Nobody is going to tell us we can’t do it. But we don’t have to.”

Trump also said in his message, “They were unfriendly. I told them we don’t want anything in Spain. There is absolutely nothing we need. They have great people, but they don’t have great leadership. As you know, they were the only NATO country that didn’t want to commit to 5%. I don’t think they wanted to commit to anything. They wanted to stay at 2% and they don’t even pay 2%. So we’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want any.”
